Using Lightroom XMP with Pixchoose

Export your client's selection back into Lightroom as flags / color labels via XMP sidecars.

Pixchoose can export the client's selection as a bundle of .xmp sidecar files that you import into Lightroom. The selected photos get a "Pick" flag (or a color label) right inside your catalog.

How to do it

  1. Open the event where the client has submitted their selection.
  2. Click Export → Lightroom XMP. You'll get a ZIP with one .xmp per photo.
  3. In Lightroom, select all the original files in the Library module.
  4. Copy the .xmp files into the same folder where the originals live (filenames match the photo filenames).
  5. In Lightroom: Metadata → Read Metadata from Files. Lightroom will pick up the flags / labels from the XMPs.

Settings

In the event settings you can choose whether the selection is marked as a flag (Pick), a color, or stars — that mapping carries 1:1 into the XMP.

Tip: if you have Automatically write changes into XMP enabled in Lightroom, Read Metadata from Files may ask which version to take. Pick Import from Disk — that's the Pixchoose one.
